Adhemarius tigrina was described by C. Felder and R. Felder in 1874. Forewings of this species measure 57 to 63 millimetres in length. Its distribution ranges from Peru to Venezuela, and it has also been documented in Bolivia. The subspecies Adhemarius tigrina coronata is found in Colombia.
