Acronicta sperata, commonly known as the hopeful dagger moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. Augustus Radcliffe Grote first described this species in 1873. It is distributed in North America, ranging from New Brunswick west to the Alberta foothills, south to the District of Columbia and Missouri, and also occurring in the mountain regions of Colorado. The wingspan of this moth measures 30 to 35 mm. Depending on location, adult hopeful dagger moths are active on wing from May to June. The larvae of this species feed on species from the Populus and Alnus genera.
