About Acronicta megacephala (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
Technical description and variation of Acronicta megacephala: The forewing is pale grey, suffused with dark color, except for a patch beyond the cell. The hindwing is white in males and greyer in females. The larva is dark grey with granulated yellowish dots; the 11th segment bears a large yellowish-white dorsal patch. Hairs, which grow singly, are whitish, and the head is black with pale markings. The grumi Alph. form has a narrower forewing, with a conspicuously whitish area between the inner line and median shade; this form occurs in West China. The aberration ochrea Tutt has a distinctly ochreous ground colour, while aberration rosea Tutt has a rosy tinge to the forewing. Melanic forms sometimes occur. The wingspan of this species ranges from 40 to 45 mm.
