About Acromyrmex lobicornis (Emery, 1888)

Acromyrmex lobicornis (Emery, 1888) is a species of leaf-cutter ant. It is a New World ant belonging to the subfamily Myrmicinae and the genus Acromyrmex. This species falls into one of the two genera of advanced attines, which are also known as fungus-growing ants, within the tribe Attini. Acromyrmex lobicornis thrives in disturbed habitats. This is likely due to the higher concentrations of pioneer plant species found in these areas. Pioneer plants have lower levels of secondary metabolites and higher nutrient concentrations than the shade-tolerant plant species that replace them later in succession.
