About Acrocarpus fraxinifolius Wight & Arn.
Acrocarpus is a genus of trees in the legume family Fabaceae. It contains only one species, Acrocarpus fraxinifolius Wight & Arn., commonly called the pink cedar. This is a large deciduous emergent tree native to Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal and Thailand. In India, it is also known by the common names Balangi and Kurungatti. This species is one of the food plants used by the endangered lion-tailed macaque during periods when fruit is scarce. In India, it is planted as a shade tree for coffee plantations. It is also the preferred species for establishing plantations in badly degraded areas that are not protected from cattle grazing. Per the Bureau of Indian Standards, the timber of this species is recommended for use in making furniture, cabinets and tea boxes.
