About Acorus gramineus Aiton
Acorus gramineus Aiton is a shrubby plant with long, narrow, slightly curved leaves that can grow up to 30 cm (12 inches) in height. It can grow fully submerged, partially submerged, or in very moist soil, though it usually only flowers when it is at least partially submerged. Two varieties have distinct leaf traits: var. pusillus has shorter, more rigid glossy green leaves, while var. variegatus has longer leaves streaked with yellow. In cultivation, Acorus gramineus spreads aggressively via rhizomes, forming a nearly seamless groundcover in favorable conditions. It is frequently used along the edges of ponds and water gardens, and also grown submerged in freshwater aquaria. This species can be propagated by dividing its fleshy underwater rhizome and planting the divided base in shallow water.
