Acokanthera oblongifolia, a species in the plant family Apocynaceae, has several common names: African wintersweet, dune poison bush, Hottentot's poison, poison arrow plant, and wintersweet. This plant grows as an evergreen shrub or small tree, reaching a maximum height of 6 meters (20 feet). Its fragrant flowers have a white corolla tinged with pink. When ripe, its berries are purple. It naturally grows in the habitats of dry forest and coastal thickets. Local African communities use Acokanthera oblongifolia in traditional medicine to treat snakebites, itches, and internal worms. This plant has also been used to make arrow poison. It is native to Mozambique and South Africa.
