About Acisoma inflatum (Selys, 1871)

Identification: The distribution of Acisoma inflatum overlaps with the similar species Acisoma variegatum (slender pintail) in southern and eastern Africa. These two species can be distinguished from one another by their abdominal markings and abdomen shape. Distribution: Acisoma inflatum occurs across much of Africa. Relict populations of the species are also found north of the Sahara, in Algeria, Egypt and Libya. Habitat: This species lives in and near calm water bodies that have grass, including grassy ponds and pans.
