About Acer obtusifolium Sm.

Acer obtusifolium Sm. is an evergreen maple species. It naturally grows as a shrub, but can also be cultivated into a tree reaching approximately 16 feet in height. Its foliage is leathery, and individual leaves range from unlobed to three-lobed. Most leaves of this species are gray-green in color. This species is currently distributed across Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, and Israel. It grows on the slopes of coastal mountains within Mediterranean maquis shrubland. Historically, populations of this species were recorded in Crete, but it is now extinct there. Claims of this species growing in Turkey have recently been proven incorrect.
