About Acer binzayedii Y.L.Vargas-Rodr.

Acer binzayedii Y.L.Vargas-Rodr. is a large tree species that reaches heights between 20 and 30 meters. It flowers from December to January, and produces fruit starting in March. This species is native to ravine montane cloud forests in the Sierra de Manantlán, located in western Jalisco State. It is only known from two remaining remnant populations, each with an area smaller than two hectares, growing between 1,790 and 1,880 meters in elevation. The mean annual temperature in its habitat is 18.5 °C. The two cloud forest remnants where this maple occurs are separated by pine–oak forest. It grows on intermediate rock substrates and cambisol soil. It typically grows in association with the plant species Carpinus tropicalis, Cornus disciflora, Dendropanax arboreus, Ostrya virginiana, and Quercus salicifolia. A. binzayedii is susceptible to fire damage.
