About Acamptopappus shockleyi A.Gray

Acamptopappus shockleyi is a perennial subshrub. Its flower heads are borne singly, and each head contains both ray flowers and disk flowers. This contrasts with the related species Acamptopappus sphaerocephalus, which also grows in the Mojave Desert but produces only disk flowers arranged in corymbose arrays. Acamptopappus shockleyi grows at elevations between 3,000 and 6,200 feet (910 to 1,890 meters), found in flats and washes of the eastern Mojave Desert, the White Mountains, the Inyo Mountains, and parts of southern Nevada.
