About Abutilon palmeri A.Gray
Scientific name: Abutilon palmeri A.Gray
Description: Abutilon palmeri is a semi-evergreen shrub that reaches 0.91โ2.44 m (3โ8 feet) in height and 0.61โ1.52 m (2โ5 feet) in width. Its branches and stems range in color from green to reddish brown, and are covered in fine hairs (pubescent). The alternate leaves are velvety, heart-shaped (varying from nearly round to cordate), serrated, and densely woolly; this dense covering gives the foliage a bluish grey-green appearance. The flowers are cup-shaped, yellow to orange in color, have 5 petals, and measure approximately 2.5 cm (1 inch) across. This species blooms for most of the year. It produces small capsular fruits, each around 1.3 cm (0.5 inches) in diameter. The fruits are divided into multiple segments and covered in silky pubescence, similar to the foliage.
Cultivation: Abutilon palmeri is grown as an ornamental plant by specialty nurseries. It is planted in native plant gardens, xeriscapes, wildlife gardens, and natural landscaping projects located in warm climates.
