About Abrostola tripartita (Hufnagel, 1766)

Scientific name: Abrostola tripartita (Hufnagel, 1766). The following description, adapted from South (1907), compares this species to Abrostola triplasia. On the forewings of Abrostola tripartita, the basal and outer marginal areas are whitish grey, finely mottled with darker grey; the central area is greyish brown, mottled with darker brown. The spectacle-shaped mark located in front of the thorax is whitish grey and ringed with black. The raised scales on the crosslines and central area of the forewings are more distinct in this species than they are in Abrostola triplasia. The larvae of this moth feed on plants in the Urtica genus.
