About Abrostola asclepiadis (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775

Technical description and variation of Abrostola asclepiadis Schiff. Adult individuals are scarcely distinguishable from Abrostola triplasia L., but the two species differ completely in their larval forms. The larva of A. asclepiadis is bluish white, with a green tinge on the thoracic segments, and covered in black dots. Its dorsal tubercles are large, and it has a broad yellow lateral stripe. On each segment, there is one large black dot above this lateral stripe, and two large black dots plus several smaller black dots beneath it. The larva's head is greenish yellow with black dots. In the aberration jagowi Bartel from the Engadine, the basal area of the moth has no pink tinge and lacks dark markings. The wingspan of this species ranges from 30 to 40 mm.
