The scientific name of this moth species is Abablemma duomaculata, originally described by William Barnes and Foster Hendrickson Benjamin in 1925. It is also known by the synonym Phobolosia duomaculata, and the common name double-eyed algibelle. This moth belongs to the family Erebidae. It is distributed from southern Texas in the United States, southward into Mexico. It likely has multiple generations each year. Its larvae have been successfully reared feeding on lichens of the genus Physcia, and they probably also feed on other types of lichens.
